Dear Jane
I’ve been hunkered down in Ohio for the past three months helping take care of my ailing mom and brother-in-law. During an exchange of texts with my dear songwriter friend, Molly Bowers, she lovingly wrote, “You are exactly where you need to be,” and no doubt, she was right.
This part of life and love is so fragile, vulnerable, and raw. There’s no hiding from it or protecting yourself against it. It just shows up, and you simply learn how to be in the same room with it until, eventually, you let go and embrace it.
Thank God for grace.
Both Mom and my brother-in-law are doing better now, so I was able to come back home to Nashville for a bit.
The very next day after the long drive home, I was ridiculously exhausted, but dove headfirst into recording a demo of a new song that Jamie Granger and I wrote together called “Dear Jane.” I hit it hard for two days, and I’ve gotta say, it was the most cathartic couple of days of music I’ve had in a very long while.
Yet again, another gentle reminder — you are exactly where you need to be.
I’m quite taken with the song and love how the production is coming along so far. Let’s see where it lands!
